The Carpathians are one of Europe’s last great wilderness areas, a haven for large carnivores such as brown bears, wolves and lynx, as well as the site of a comeback of Europe’s largest herbivore, the bison. However connectivity that these animals need is being challenged by habitat fragmentation, and the development of transport and other infrastructure.
